Greetings,
Public Hearing on the Townwide Facilities Master Plan
The Permanent Public Building Committee and the
Facilities Working Group invite you to join them
for a
presentation from consultant DiNisco Design
Partnerships, Inc. with their recommendations for a
Townwide Facilities Master Plan.
Monday, October 23, 2006 7:00
PM Needham Public Library Community Room
The Facilities Working Group and DiNisco have
spent a
year studying the town's facilities needs,
existing space
and buildable lots in order to design a road map
for
addressing the needs in an efficient and cost
effective
manner. This hearing is a wonderful opportunity to
educate yourself on the conclusions of the study.
Public questions and comments will be welcome at
the
end of the presentation. You may also submit
comments and questions at
selectmen@town.needham.ma.us.
If you cannot attend the hearing, it will be
covered by
the Needham Channel.

Observe the Fincom's Deliberations on the School Related Warrent Articles |
 |
|
This Wednesday, October 25, the Finance Committee
will take a second look at the five school-related
warrant articles for the November 1 Town Meeting.
Parents should attend this meeting because the
Finance Committee's stand on these articles will
influence Town Meeting members' votes. Because
Finance Committee meetings are not televised, the only
way to hear the Committee's thoughts is to attend.
Citizens can also make public comments at the
beginning of the meeting. If you wish to be recognized
by the Committee Chair, please email the Finance
Committee Secretary, Louise Miller, beforehand. Her
email address is: lmfincom@gmail.com. The meeting
begins at 7 p.m. in the Selectmen's Room in Town Hall.
The five articles are:
1. Completion of the work on Mitchell's
roof
2. Full allocation to the schools of the additional
Chapter 70
money from the state so that supply and professional
development monies may be restored at individual
schools
3. Design money for technology upgrades at
Pollard
4. Design money for portables at Pollard in
September 2008
5. Design money for an infill addition and a
renovation at High Rock

Follow the Money--How Needham Budgets and Spends |
 |
|
How are your property taxes assessed? Who decides
how the town's revenues are spent? How is the
budget created? Why the need for Prop. 2 1/2
overrides?
If you would like answers to these questions, the
Needham League of Women Voters and the Needham
PTCs invite you to attend an interactive,
informational
fall forum: Follow the Money--How Needham
Budgets
and Spends.
Thursday, October 26,
2006 7:30 PM Broadmeadow School
This dynamic evening will feature an informal
presentation from a panel of town officials
covering:
the sources of town revenues, property tax
assessments, an explanation of Proposition 2
1/2, the
structure of town government and the budget
process. Audience members will have ample
opportunity to ask questions.
The panel of speakers includes:
Kate
Fitzpatrick, Town Manager Jerry Wasserman,
Selectman Jeff Simmons, School Committee
Member Steve Rosenstock, Chairman of the
Finance Committee
If you cannot attend,
the event will be taped for rebroadcast on the
Needham Channel.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Citizens for
Needham Schools meeting on Sunday, October 15. We
have an ambitious list of projects for this
year, and a
few are gathering momentum. Please take a look and
let us know if you can help.
Preschool Outreach
Preschool parents are often not thinking about the
public schools, and yet they are the most likely
to be
affected by current deliberations. Therefore,
we would
like to continue our efforts to reach out to
this group.
We have preschool liaisons for Carter Nursery
School,
the Carter Center for Children, Chestnut Children's
Center, the JCC, Kindercare, Little Red Wagon,
Noah's
Ark, Needham Children's Center, Puddles and
Bubbles,
and Temple Beth Shalom. If you could be a
liaison to a
preschool not on this list, please let us know.
Newsletter Articles
Miss writing for your college newspaper?
Regretting
your decision not to become a journalist? We could
use your help. We would like to add to our
group of
newsletter writers. If you are willing to go to
some
town meetings, interview some town officials, maybe
do a little research, then you're perfect for
the job.
Don't worry about your spelling and grammar - we
have
great editors!
Anything else?
What do you think we should do this year? Tell us
what you're interested in, and we'll put that
project on
the list.
