Greetings,
At tomorrow's election, voters will be asked to weigh in
on some important decisions for the schools. The ballot will allow you to
cast votes on two override questions and two
contested School Committee races. Please get to the polls and make
your voice heard. Get your spouse and your neighbor
to the polls, too.
The deadline for voting absentee has come and gone, so no matter how busy you
are tomorrow, the only way to vote is in person, and it only takes
a minute or two of your time. Every vote counts - past elections
have been decided by as few as 50 votes. The polls are open 6:45
a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Still Undecided?
Question 1 asks for $1.1 million for
school
operating
costs. This question will cost the average
taxpayer
$109 a year. The average taxpayer owns a home
worth $682,000.
The Needham Public Schools website lists the cuts
that will be made if Question 1 fails.
Question 2 asks for a $21 million debt-
exclusion
override to fund two middle school projects.
$20.2
million will pay for a renovation and
addition to make
High Rock into a sixth-grade center,
scheduled to
open in September 2009. $800,000 will pay for a
technology infrastructure upgrade at Pollard.
The cost
to the taxpayer
for this question will vary over 20 years.
The average
taxpayer will pay $243 in the peak year and
lesser
amounts in the other years.
The Needham Public Schools website contains lots of
information about both projects.
The Yes for Needham Campaign website also
contains information about the ballot questions:
www.YesforNeedham.org.
Meet the School Committee
Candidates by reading
their answers to the CNS questionnaire.
